I’ve seen some awesome local talks lately! I love going to author interviews and creative talks because it’s the perfect place to practice sketching plus reportage.

It’s so tricky to get the quotes down in time. Ella Quittner said
I had so much fun sketching costumes at the Sacramento Comic-Con — our meetup today for @urbansketcherssacramento. People wore imaginative clothing that I’m so unused to drawing, and it was a good challenge to capture the interesting shap
Some of my favorite people sketches from #OneWeek100People last week. I feel like I learned a lot from this challenge. I’m excited to use more red ink, more graphite sketches, more abstract color washes. Here’s to experimenting and growin
So fun to hear folk musician and historian Natalia Contesse last night at WAL. She talked the centrality of water to our lives and invited us to go to our Sacramento rivers to have a casual conversation with the water. Soon I might go to the Sac Rive
Kids say the funniest things. 😂

I was lucky to overhear this adorable interaction from what seemed to be a school field trip.

On location, I struggled to make the trees distinct enough from the bushes behind (photo 2). I was able to rescue it wit
I learned so much from @suhitasketch workshop in the @drawtogether.studio this Sunday. Some of my biggest takeaways:

-Perspective lines can help to emphasize the focal point or tell a story. In the first photo, I tried to find a way to emphasize the
I went on a fun artist date — a bike ride to the Desert Garden in Capitol Park. I set up a little picnic blanket and got comfy on the ground.

At one point, a couple walked by and I could hear one say “Just ask her!”
They asked, &
Funny story: Last week, I biked in search of cherry blossom trees. So when I found a beautiful blooming tree by southside park, I assumed it was a cherry blossom. I even wrote it on top of my sketchbook 🌸

Then a curious passerby asked to see my sk
That time when I followed a wild turkey around Curtis Park because he posed cutely in front of a boxing gym as if he wanted to go in. 🦃

After striking the cute pose, he started wandering around, but I was determined to capture the moment. I sketch
A cozy night @thefigtreecoffee with Urban Sketchers Sacramento! We were able to sit on couches, listening to live music while sketching it all. Also I was stoked that we got to use the cafe’s logo stamp on our sketchbooks. Good times. Thanks to
On my day off, I sketched at one of my favorite breakfast spots in Sacramento. I love how Morning Fork draws people of all different ages and races to eat breakfast shoulder to shoulder. While I was drawing, the little girl next to me shared her love
I’m a dangerous person to allow into a 6-hour zoom class haha. I’m taking a PPSC class through @uclaluskin to further my school social work/therapy career, and I’m enjoying it more than I expected to!

Also! I’m loving colore
Nothing restores my sanity like this. I went on two artist dates with myself yesterday, and it felt like a reset button for my brain. I spent hours immersed in the present moment, enjoying the unexpected dance of watercolors.

With a heavy heart, I made a zine yesterday to honor Minneapolis. If you haven’t already, please use @5calls to call your reps and ask to defund ICE!

Still learning how to make zines by importing my sketchbook drawings into Procreate. Still so
Woohoo! The fog cleared just in time for our @urbansketcherssacramento outing to Stanford Mansion. I had fun playing around with some new techniques on this one:

• wet-on-wet watercolor and looseness (thanks for encouraging me to try out a &ld
I had so much fun biking to the Amtrak and riding to Berkeley yesterday. I sketched California Hall at UC Berkeley as the sun cut across in diagonal rays. Students chatted about professors and called after a poodle named Cookie. I enjoyed playing aro
When the fog cleared yesterday, I spent a sunny afternoon getting to know this cool art deco building in Winn Park. Apparently it was built in 1937 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) as a fire alarm station. And now it’s being renovated
Another awesome @urbansketcherssacramento event! Thanks @wildsistersbookco for hosting us! 📚 I’m amazed at how our group keeps growing. 👯‍♀️

Photos 3 & 4: @cactasss captured me sketching on the sidewalk! I love it! 🥰
Some sunny Florida sketches from my birthday December 31, and my first time sketching on a beach (10 out of 10, would recommend). I miss sketching outside in the warmth and can’t wait for the spring in Sacramento! In the meantime, I’ve go
